Hoo boy. If you think consoles are getting too expensive, it might not be the best time to consider PC gaming.
Everybody talking about Scooty “beating” the game but nobody is talking about the story. There is a story. You are building a missile silo with bricks. The lines aren’t disappearing, the camera is scrolling up. It was the Cold War. It makes sense.
I have no official documentation of this.
I used to be really good at video games, but now I just don’t have the time. I remember being able to jump in any CS lobby and jump to the top of the server. I got kicked for supposedly cheating all the time. That was always a good feeling. Knowing that I’m kicking so much ass that people assume I must be cheating.
My crowning achievement is beating Super Ghouls and Ghosts - both times through (second time with the farie bracelet). This was using an original SNES, no save states or anything. Dedicated an entire summer of my teenage life to it. Game is hard, man.
Computers used to be a hobby but I turned that into a career. I’m a principal systems engineer and I like to think I’m good at what I do.
I got really into cooking, and it was maybe a hobby at some point, but now with a family it’s more of a necessity. A lot of the things I learned while cooking as a hobby turned into skills though. I’m not sure how to explain it, but like having cooking intuition. Knowing when to add more or less of something just by knowing. Also just being able to freestyle meals out of what is laying around or knowing what can be substituted with what or how to make ingredients out of other ingredients.
I used to have this as a kid, but with very thinly sliced apples in there as well. Damn now I kind of want one.
Northeast here, we would like to join you.
Funny story. LG made something with a similar concept about 10 years ago and it never really took off. The LG G5 was a modular smart phone that was supposed to have a bunch of cool modules, but they never came to fruition.
I had one, but mostly because I loved having a swappable battery. Never had to charge my phone, I would just have a spare battery charging on my desk and I would swap it out before I left the house.
Hell yeah! I did not know this was an option. Thanks for the tip!
Valve is directly responsible for skins in Counter Strike which are gotten with 100% gambling mechanics. The fact that they can be sold for real life cash adds to this. I’m not saying its only Valve doing this, plenty of other games on Steam as well, but they certainly have a horse in the race.
I over-pronounce Wednesday. Like wed-nes-day. Most people say wendsday.
Also apparently I’m weird for pronouncing jewelry correctly. I pronounce it like it is spelled, and what it means. It is personal ornaments often containing jewels. Jewel-ry. Not Joolery.
Same thing with Aunt. It’s not Ant. There is a U in there.
It look like Nvme riser cables exist, so your mad scientist approach should still be doable, but you would have to continue doing mad scientist shit.
Nvme riser going to the front of the case, maybe even the top, and then get one of those rubber nipple nubs that exist for holding nvme drives in place, and bam, you can swap the drives pretty easily.
Very niche requirement, but to each their own.
You could just get one big drive and partition it to have multiple OS or whatever it is you need. Then pick which one you want to boot from when you start up. Did they get rid of that ability? I haven’t messed with anything like that in years.
Gunfire Reborn. It’s a roguelite FPS that is fun to play with friends. It’s very jumpy shooty. I really dig the handling in it, and there are lots of weapons and abilities and play styles and due to the rogue like nature of it, you get to experiment with lots of stuff. It’s lots of fun, but not super deep.
Phasmaphobia. Been playing this one for years somehow. It’s a ghost hunting game but you don’t actually hunt ghosts, you collect evidence to identify the type of ghost that is haunting a place. The ghosts will kill you though. It no longer makes me scream like it used to, but I still get chills from it. If you’re looking to soil your underwear, it’s a good time.
Don’t forget the batteries which may or may not have a charge. If you want to modernize it, it should also have some wall warts and USB cables.
As somebody who has to work with deploying this software for consultants that use W365 Cloud PCs, fuck this name. If there is an error or an issue with it, good fucking luck trying to Google a solution because searching for “Windows App Error” gets you nowhere fucking useful.
So I got my first 2 shots way back when. And I think this is my 3rd booster?
No underlying health issues but it might be worth noting that I got covid way at the beginning of the pandemic and I was hospitalized for a week. It was the sickest I have ever been in my life. I was sick for 2 weeks before I went to the hospital because back then it was next to impossible to get a test, and it took forever to get results back.
I don’t know if I’m one of the few that is just voulerable to covid or whatever, and maybe because of that the vaccine has a chance to hite differently? I don’t know. There’s still so much unknown about covid, but I’m really hoping this fatigue clears up because quality of life is way down right now. It’s been very difficult to work and take care of my daughter etc. Driving isn’t safe… It’s not great.
I need to preface this by saying that I am in no way anti-vaccine, and this has nothing to do with politics.
But…
I got my last booster about 3 weeks ago, and I have been messed up ever since. Apparently there is something called Long Vax Syndrome that is currently being studied. Fortunately I don’t have some of the worst symptoms, but the fatigue is so real. Normally when I would get a covid booster I would be exhausted for about 24 hours, but this is unrelenting. I’ve never been this tired in my life, and it’s honestly a struggle. I am really hoping something comes of the research and they figure something out because I don’t know how long I can sustain this.
