I can assure you, the APIs I work on are not that put together looking. Maybe if you lit the food truck on fire, that’d be a good analogy

I just gave up Duolingo at 1770 days for French which hurt to do. I was mostly just maintaining a streak at this point and with the news of them using AI to replace their employees (even if they retracted it), I decided to quit.
I’ve switched to Babbel now which has been really good so far
I remember cutting my hand pretty good on one of the old metal beyblades as a kid. I loved those things
Honestly maybe not after a long run but sometimes when I’m really dehydrated I legit crave milk
I asked OP to update the title in another comment which they did (and appreciate) but it made this comment of mine confusing 😅. The original title didn’t have any mention of which country. It just said they were adding a paywall
The original title just said something like “BBC is now paywalled” making it sound like it applied to more than 1 of the 195 (worldometers.info recognised) countries in the world.
I’m not British but it’d be pretty alarming to hear that the BBC was adding a paywall that applied to the British if I was British
Awesome thanks! 😊
I love the US defaultism even when they’re talking about another country’s public news station
(edit: the title originally just said it was adding a paywall without mention of any country)
BBC announced it’s introducing a paywall for consumers in the U.S
It seems like it’s only for the US? If that’s true can you update the title OP
I guess it’s less the response itself but the response objects in the codebase. The main code base I work on is fully typed Python/FastAPI but we depend on an API from another team that was, up until recently, untyped entirely. The responses were just dictionaries that were dynamically generated randomly in 10 layer deep functions. There was absolutely no way to tell what they would actually return, let alone what types they would be. It’s like, if you see a function that’s just called get_big_fat_entity_findings()
with no typing, how would you handle that without spending an hour reading through the code line by line? Typing is important for any project that’s bigger than a quick script
Are you the person who’s writing these APIs that just return dynamically generated untyped JSON that I need to deal with on my team at work? Typing absolutely matters and I will die on this hill
This is actually so gross. Do companies like Instant Pot think this will make people outside of the States like them any better? I wanted an Instant Pot but they can go to hell now. Like hell I’m supporting a company supporting a president threatening annexation of my country
What progressives? Are you talking about the US? You guys don’t really have any progressives. The NDP or Green parties here in Canada would do a lot more to help the homeless than our current leading party (LPC)
no meaningful social service growth has happened in ANY of our lifetimes
We just got tax payer funded dental care for a large portion of the population. I only bring this up because I hate the generalisation that we’re all American on the internet
Ayy right back at you with +7
<3
I only have you at +1 unfortunately :(
You’re at +8 for me!
Aw. I have you at +33 though!
Aw yeah, that makes sense. I have you at +1 before this comment
Yeah! It’s fun but definitely exposes that the average comment section is mostly made up of the same people.
I have you at +2
Yeah… I wasn’t actually learning a whole lot. I live right across the river from Quebec though so I’m hoping to move over there to immerse myself in French a lot more.
I’ve always been bitter because my whole Dad’s side of the family is Francophone but never bothered to speak the language with me :(
