I’m super stoked for the Project Hail Mary movie. But I was super disappointed in the trailer, because it shows the WHOLE freaking movie. If you haven’t read the book, you’re far better off skipping the trailer and going in blind.

The Hobbit and LOTR books are actually fantastic to listen to as audiobooks. The narrator (at least in the version I had) sings all the songs.

No Flinching by Stephen King. It’s a good book, but you really have to go back and start with the Mr. Mercedes series.

My stove won’t preheat, I guess because it’s a safety issue. Apparently you can set a remote start capability ahead of time that gets reset if you open the over door. But I’ve never tried it, since that seems like a lot.

I got new appliances a couple weeks ago and they’re all “smart”. Turns out a smart microwave just sends you a phone notification when it’s done. By default.

As someone with multiple people living in the house, I can confidently say this is the dumbest “smart” feature ever. Promptly disabled.

Damn that’s interesting. I like how they walked through step by step how they got the exploit to work. This is what actual real hacking is like, but much less glamorous than what you see in the movies.

We were having a movie night in our neighborhood a few years back where we got a bedsheet and a cheap projector. We hooked it up to a laptop to project a movie on someone’s garage for the neighborhood kids.

We ended up projecting The Lego Movie and most of the kids lost interest about half an hour in - and were falling asleep and ready to go home.

I’ll be damned if it wasn’t one of the best animated movies I’ve ever seen. I sent my wife home with our youngest just so I could stay and finish the movie.

Lol now that you mention it, I didn’t see the first Puss in Boots, but took my kids to see the 2nd in the theater. I distinctly remember thinking “God damn, this movie is fucking good for a sequel to a spinoff to a movie that had two mediocre sequels.”

I’ve always thought that the average person has less than 2 arms. But now that you mention babys… I wonder if there are enough pregnant women where the average person has more than 2 arms instead.

In Colorado, one of my wife’s friends is what most people (I say this, knowing the Lemmy political scale is vastly different from most Americans) would consider super liberal. She’s also very outspoken and politically active, so she has no problems telling everyone she knows how to vote on every issue.

Last election, we were at her house and she mentioned that she was against ranked choice voting. When I asked her why, she pointed to her voting guide provided by the Colorado Democratic Party. She just blindly accepts that because the party says it’s bad, then it’s bad.

After seeing that, it wasn’t surprising to me when the proposition failed.

When you put it that way, that’s fucking insane. $2 million in retirement plus having my house paid off has always been my retirement goal. Granted, by the time I reach that goal, inflation and the cost of living will probably make that not enough.

Still, to think this asshat makes that in less than 2 weeks is fucking ridiculous. Like why even work at that point? I realize “work” for a CEO is mostly golfing and expensive dinners, but still…
