Allowing this to go unchecked or ignored is how we got here in the first place. “Just ignore the trolls” led to the trolls having actual societal inertia. It is no longer enough to just ignore them, they need pushback.

Paradox DLCs also classically add a ton of content every single time. Sure Stellaris kind of sucks as a new player because there’s $260 of content, but it’s perfectly playable and even good with only the base version and then you pick whatever new content you like as you want more of it. Rimworld has the exact same strategy and I don’t see people complain about that. They release a complete game without any obviously missing parts and then keep bolting on cool new extra parts for the next 10 years.

All that to say, yeah this is kind of out of character for Paradox. Which does have me concerned about this.

Linux users do though. If people keep moving from Windows to Linux they’re going to run up against the trash Nvidia driver support pretty quick.

This is a problem that Nvidia is capable of solving but they haven’t been interested in it for over a decade so I don’t see them starting now.

Expecting a major flood of new Linux users might be a bit of a pipe dream though. But the momentum is building. If we do manage to swing the market noticeably in that way, AMD is going to get a big boost over Nvidia in the gaming GPU market.

I doubt that will really move the needle for crypto bros or AI farms, but it is something.

Hell yeah. I saw this yesterday when you first posted about it, immediately sent it to all my friends, and then I’ve been busy afterward.

Even giving this sign the benefit of the doubt, if someone is actively drowning and you just call 911 and do nothing else then they will surely be dead by the time anyone from emergency services can make an appearance to help.

This does not mean you should also drown yourself trying to help them though. Ideally you throw them something long like a rope and tow them in to shore. If that’s not possible, throwing them anything that floats is a good secondary option. People who aren’t trained as lifeguards shouldn’t usually get in the water to try and save a drowning person though, that’s a very easy way to turn one dead body into two dead bodies. A drowning human is not a rational actor and they can and will also drown you trying (and failing) to save themselves.

The modding community is what really kept breathing life into that game for me for so long. I’m hoping once we finally see the next (final?) DLC expansion that the modders will pick the game back up again. It’s been very stagnant for a couple of years now, presumably waiting for DG to release his expansion like a sudden kraken as is tradition. But it’s been 2 years now since the last update (which was primarily a scaffolding update for the Lost Lands content to come) and I imagine everyone who would be otherwise interested is now hanging in a limbo of not wanting to start work on a project when DG might drop a major update at literally any time and invalidate a bunch of your work.

Even just the regular base game kept me playing for years and years though. Solid 10/10 freeware game. I used to bounce between ToME and DCSS (also freeware, also recommend, this one actually gets regular updates) pretty regularly and that kept me covered on dungeon crawling roguelikes for the better part of a decade. I still keep coming back to them on occasion though, I’ve played a bit of both of those games within the last 2 weeks.

They’re pretty much all the same movie with different names on them. But it’s pretty clear that everyone involved in those movies was just having a great time making them.
