Good to see they still stand by their founding principles
Agreed, though it’s surprising it hasn’t already happened given their longstanding stance on investments in arms or other controversial industries
For reference: Over 3000 locations and £11b revenue a year.
I think that’s just the main coop group? There are other coops + Nisa that almost exclusively use their own brand items and distribution network (as shown by the post ransomware shortages)
So probably more if they cut all Israeli stuff from their entire network.
I had a look at the supposed “false and defamatory statements” that the UKLFI claimed the Co-op made, and it’s such a weaksauce mix of pedantry over minor points plus heaps of unsourced speculation peppered with weasel words that it’s almost comically bad. Even their own defence of Israel is damning.
In their letter to the Co-op, the head of the UKLFI claimed that the siege of Gaza will improve life expectancy by eliminating obesity. They are depraved.

That’s shocking, more so for the fact that speaking with that level of callousness about the victims of Hamas attacks would get you banned from basically every platform and political party in the West.
Based.
Are they different from the grocery store chain of the same name in Canada?
Yes they are different. If you’re a member you may have voting rights to give you the ability to elect people with similar values to their board.
“and show “moral courage and leadership.””
Good way to show moral courage, almost two years after the genocide has started and the public opinion greatly shifted to anti-Israel. I am sure it will greatly help with the sales.
Aren’t they on BDS lists and could this just be a response to that impact?
Awesome this is huge
