For cooking, LG will introduce the Over-the-Range Microwave and Slide-in Double Oven Induction Range. The microwave is equipped with three cameras, allowing you to check on your food without letting out the heat. Plus, the company suggests that content creators could use the feature to capture timelapse footage as their dishes cook. On top of this, the microwave features a 27-in 1080p display with built-in speakers and Bluetooth connectivity, allowing you to stream content in the kitchen.
Alternatively, the display can be used to control linked smart home devices. Like the fridge, the induction range is said to be able to intelligently recognise food items and suggest recipes accordingly. It is unclear how much the LG Signature French Door Refrigerator with T-OLED door panel or the Signature Over-the-Range Microwave and Slide-in Double Oven Induction Range will cost.
The three cameras and AI-powered food detection almost reads like satire.
And all of this tech is just asking for problems way down the road. My expectation is that kitchen appliances should work ~20 years. I would have much preferred if they spent all this extra tech-related costs on improving long-term usage life.
But then how are they going to sell you a new one when your warranty expires?
-
hi LG support I need a new camera
-
I can help you with that. Which camera do you need?
-
aren’t they the same
-

-

-
I’m sorry that’s been discontinued. What else can I help you with?
-

This isn’t for you. They still sell inexpensive no frill ovens. Not every product is going to be designed to what you want.
I am well aware. At one point I worked professionally in a data service provision role for this market.
My point stands. Even if you are into this kind of thing, it is not reasonable to not have to deal with a tech system that gets abandoned or becomes a pain in 3-5 years.
Just my opinion. :)
Excellent, a 27 inch screen on my microwave. That will pair nicely with the screens on my fridge, oven, and coffee maker. Now I just need screens for my countertops
I recommend not buying LG in general. I have experience with LG phones, TVs, refrigerators, and ranges/ovens. The initial quality is good. But the damned things break early.
But can it recognize deez nuts?
