Its largely american cope that they are not that good at manufacturing anymore. Chinese factories build things to spec, and the customer asks for cheap, so they get cheap.
but to everyone saying “we should just compete”, do you realize the realities that Chinese workers experience? Have you heard of 996?
I get what you are saying, but sometimes I think we should in a way, or at least we should get republicans exposed to it, so they can live their hogwash ideas of free markets.
Its true that the economy of scale to reduce emissions is at the factories and such, but the point of the other things on a personal level are important; largely because they instill a culture of caring about the matter. For example, for better or worse, the marine corps puts a lot of emphasis on the proper wearing and display of the uniform, so the consequence is that it is taboo to not shave or have unshined shoes. If you are the only one in a party using a plastic straw or the only one rolling coal; you’ll be more than a sore thumb; you’ll be shunned at a deeper level and by the wider community not just environmentalists.

My favorite is the pcmr type that says Linux is to hard, but their comment history recommends registry edits to keep edge from becoming the default browser or something stupid.
I am a bit surprised they are not taking it up state with windows phone.
I got my start with linux as a student looking to do astronomy. I didn’t have any issues with windows that got me to switch; just liked it more for its own sake. I think I went full nerd when I realized how to compile my own stuff and set environment variables. I also really liked having a package manager.
Certainly, but its worth highlighting why we use GPL and similar.
Oddly libertarians never acknowledge that market leaders ask for theses things. The biggest threat to the free market are capitalists themselves.
