I only had an underpowered laptop that could barely play modern games.

I would like to point out that not all modern games have stupidly high requirements, and I might argue that the ones that do could actually optimise their shit to work on lower spec machines.

When did the deck drop? It was the only serious contender until last year, year before maybe?
Year of the gaming handheld has been upon us for a few years now.

Currently I still find it too much of a hastle to correctly run Winblows applications, almost always relying on Lutris, Steams proton or Bottles to do the work for me.

That’s…uhhh… that’s why they were made? So that your average Joe Schmoe, like myself and you, doesn’t have to muddle through trying to get wine set exactly right so that the windows program functions. It sounds like you’re complaining about the solution to the problem.
I guess there could be work done to just make it so if you double click on a .exe install file in just boots whatever has the best install preset, or give you a pop up with options for lutris/proton/bottles.

I’m dearly hoping that the whackjobs don’t decide to just kick it off early. I had a really bad panic attack this morning. I’m a bit better now, but still trying to stop feeling like today has been the start of a massive existential crisis.

I’m Canadian. But my trans sister and her wife live in Oregon. They’re planning to visit our parents in December. Hopefully the wheels of fascist government change grind slow enough for them to still get out. I’m not religious, but I’m praying all of you are safe in the months to come.

It’s one of the things that I like the most about lemmy over reddit. The reddit linux community was toxic, insular and gatekeepy, even as a moderately experienced linux user I had difficulty getting help.
