Back in the old days (ie 2020) we called this “writing out requirements” and it was generally the way that devs knew what they were supposed to do.

I think Maid Marion from Disney’s Robin Hood basically invented furries.
I’m with you 100% from the privacy and cybersecurity perspectives. That said, if they can be solved (e.g. at some point there will simply be no need for any more training data, and computers will be fast enough to do all the fancy stuff locally), I’d vastly prefer having an appliance do my housekeeping chores than a cleaning service.
I’ve been carrying the same profile back and forth between Linux and windows for probably 15 years. Just copy the whole directory over. You can start Firefox with I think —profile manager and point your profile to the new folder.
My desk is littered with post-it notes and papers, as the act of writing something down is usually what helps to “lock” it into my memory for a time. Unfortunately due to the ridiculous number of to-dos I usually have at any given time it makes me look like some kind of crazy note-hoarder.
This gives me Old Internet vibes. Glorious.
Maybe it’s time for a FOSS general strike.
No need to limit it to only people on social media…
😂
Yeah, the company that made the article is plugging their own AI-detection service, which I’m sure needs a couple of paragraphs to be at all accurate. For something in the range of just a sentence or two it’s usually not going to be possible to detect an LLM.
I have a hard time understanding facebook’s end game plan here - if they just have a bunch of AI readers reading AI posts, how do they monetize that? Why on earth is the stock market so bullish on them?
Super Mario Bros 3 - NES
I’d watch that.
Even modest hardware can run a decent LLM. Maybe someone will open source a project to let people make their own avatars explicitly to poison the social media sites.
Well, at least your username fits.
I probably haven’t seen The Neverending Story in 25 years, but I still think about Artax from time to time. Fuckin’ Swamp of Sadness…
Don’t know about favorite, but as far as “most frequent” goes, like a filthy heathen I sometimes just buy a bag of Nestle semisweet chocolate chips and eat them out of the bag.
It makes me think of Fahrenheit 451 where everyday people would sometimes become bit actors in these long form tv/hologram shows and describe the other actors as their friends and family, even though they never actually interacted beyond the scripted bits.
This is an east coast vs west coast thing more than timezone pacific, but the ocean on the east coast is way warmer thanks to the Gulf Stream. I’ve been surfing in SoCal in the middle of summer and the water was freezing vs surfing in NY in May and it was tolerable (still cold tho).
Some of the instances have a community bent to them. Slrpnk and beehaw come to mind most immediately, but there are lots of others that are focused on gathering a specific niche of humanity and getting them to interact with one another.
