I’m currently watching through all of Voyager for the first time. I’m on the tail end of Season 4. Neelix is insufferable in the first few seasons. He’s got redeeming qualities, but they’re overshadowed by his narcissism and immaturity. I have to admit, at this point in the series, he has really redeemed himself and I see him as quirky but measured.
Did his character get better writing or do I just “know” him better?
He becomes more likable as time goes on, as far as I’m concerned. Still a bit on the toxic positivity side, but that gets some backstory to reinforce why. The Neelix dislike exists as more of a meme than otherwise.
Edit: I must admit, his early relationship with Kes remains questionable.

Yeah. Neelix is fun to joke about, but we love him.
