    The most confusing thing about DS9 is that somehow replicators stopped being a thing. And apparently all the food out of them tastes like chicken

      Cardassian tech running a mix of Ferengi and Federation software. Causes lots of problems, but generates plenty of work for O’Brien.

      Outside of Starfleet, replicators are not universally good/reliable/available. Nor are they preferred to real cooking.
