In all seriousness, this moment in DS9 left me more prepared to celebrate with my buddy when he transitioned.
It’s part of why Trek is so important to me, personally.
If you only ever call people by their family name, not only is it a sign of respect, you’ll never accidentally dead-name anyone. (Note: results may vary for cases of maiden/pre-married names)
In my area it’s seen as disrespectful, I think the Gen Xers are hung up on high school athletics where their coach would shout their last name
