Seth MacFarlane tried to coax NBC Universal to buy Star Trek a few years ago.

      Imagine that timeline.

      Me too.

Among “big” IPs, it feels relatively likely to end up in more independent hands, though.

Picture Paramount finally sinking and IP getting sold off. If no one wants them in a bundle, SpongeBob, TMNT, Mission: Impossible, Top Gun (which is all they talk about in presentations) will be top dollar and gobbled up. Their back catalog will languish, but it feels like ST is in the sweet spot for some smaller publisher/producer to pick up. Or maybe Sony, whom already expressed interest in a buyout offer?

I know people tend to have mixed reactions to their content, but I feel that Star Trek would do better if it was produced by Apple TV.

No I’m with you 100%. Apple doesn’t make that many shows compared to other streamers, yet gave us Foundation, Silo, Dark Matter (which I haven’t seen yet), Constellation and more. For All Mankind’s producers are open Trekkies.

People peel these apart, yeah, and honestly I don’t know what they’re on about. They proportionally make a lot of sci fi, and among it their hit record is great; Apple would go wild with the Trek IP.

          They can certainly afford it.

I dunno if they’d want it, though?

Just finished watching Murderbot, and it definitely speaks to how well this could work. Star Trek would also just suit Apple’s brand very well, as a sleek forward looking tech company. Heck, one of the more enduring gags about the Abrams films, after the lens flares, was the Apple Store bridge.
