I went down that rabbit hole a few months ago only to discover Herta Heuwer never revealed her recipe so it died with her.

I spent years of my life taking German classes and came away with only a basic proficiency. The least I can do is correct people’s spelling on the internet to convince myself it was worthwhile. And also struggle/pretend to understand German memes 😅

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_currywurst

The sausage is branded as a Volkswagen Originalteil “Volkswagen Original Part” under part number 199 398 500 A. Volkswagen also makes a ketchup, Volkswagen Originalteil 199 398 500 B, to accompany the currywurst — slightly more viscous than traditional ketchup.

I had no idea curry ketchup is a thing. Is it sweet like American ketchup?

Add garam masala to American ketchup and you’re very very close. Currywurst is one of my favorite treats, between that and Handkäse or Döner.

Its a little sweet, but I find it to be more savory than anything else. It’s fucking good too.

It can be sweet. I’ve heard of people adding honey. To me it doesn’t need to be super sweet
