Once a month like clockwork -_-
I doubt they would be that benevolent.
That’s great Google. Since you made such a big stink about Apple supporting RCS that means you will let other apps on Android to use RCS, right?
Right!?!??
I have always said if I could pick my stats I’d like to be as dumb as a box of rocks with charisma through the roof. It’s like a god damn super power.
That’s great, but if they want to make that the goal then they should structure it in a way that is more conducive to that goal. When failure without dire consequences isn’t an option, then they have fucked up.
That’s always been my issue. I worked full time and went to school full time when I was in college and still had to take out some loans. I did have some scholarship money that covered about half of it, but they only covered four years. My degree path didn’t have any free electives meaning in every assignment, test, and class I only had a single shot. Failing would likely mean having to retake a class and push graduating out to a year which would have doubled the amount of debt I came out with. All just to get a piece of paper that would allow me to do the job that I knew I would be good at and enjoy.
The entire course of my life was at the mercy of some bad teachers and worse bureaucracy. I get that my profession shouldn’t just hire people without any kind of training and hope for the best, and there were things I learned that had value, but the stakes and imbalance of power is so high I can’t really be mad at some one “cheating” when they themselves are getting royally fucked.
Linus bothers me quite a bit and I’m fairly critical of him, but I don’t know if I would go as far as saying he is a sociopath. We would probably even be friends, but I would call him on his bull shit. This is my own observations but he strikes me as having pretty strong ADHD combined with getting lucky and big a bit faster than he could adjust to.
His company has a much lower turnover rate than the industry standard and it doesn’t seem like anyone that has been on screen couldn’t do well elsewhere. That implies to me that the working environment is at least pretty good. He also seems to want to do right by his employees and knows that he is the face of the company and ultimately their paycheck. That combined with an ego that is a little too big, and maybe some issues with reading the room associated with being on the spectrum (again supposition), makes some of his reactions to public push back understandable even if it’s not OK.
Also it depends on what you consider an IT guy. He doesn’t have experience coding or doing any low level stuff, he just really enjoys building computers and tech in general which can explain a lot of his poor or dumb decisions. What he appears to actually be very good at with tech is his knowledge of supply chains, interactions between companies, and knowing what consumers are likely to actually want.
You answered your own question. They appear to have determined that there wouldn’t be demand.
That’s not really how it works, which is made apparent in the video. Without going into details, IF they decided to pay for all of the product to let the buyers decide and it turns out the buyers are not interested they may not be able to recoup that cost and go out of business.
That is just horrendous. I am not a coder by trade or education, but I do a fair amount of it in my job. I may heavily use copy and paste, but I at least make sure it matches the structure of my current code, and I always include the URL to where I got it in a comment above the code.
Thanks. I’d say it was a good run, but I don’t like lying.
They are, but like I said it’s possible to create a self directed one. Essentially I’m wanting to hedge my bets. On the small chance that things don’t go to complete shit I would like what I do to be above board and legal under the (somewhat) sane® laws and regulations so I don’t get nailed by the IRS. Doing what I mentioned would essentially put the money out of reach of the US government if they decided to start seizing assets or if I were arrested, but still legal if things don’t go south.
It’s not an insignificant amount of money, but it’s also not enough to have a dedicated firm or person to manage all of this (if it were I’d probably be safe in this oligarchy hell scape).
Trying to get my retirement money moved to foreign assets and currency. Ideally I want it to out of reach of the US government so that if I do somehow make it out of the other side alive I’ll still have access to it. I believe the ideal way would be to create an offshore LLC and create a self directed IRA that I then move my retirement money to. I have no idea how tenable this is though.
Depending on your PoV number two sounds like a win-win. You either get an employee you want, or you at least know that you were able to help someone obtain an actual job/offer. That’s pretty cool actually.
We didn’t deserve her, but I am honored and grateful to have had her working for my interests. What she was or wasn’t able to accomplish wasn’t for lack of trying.
Good on you for owning up to it though. Cheers mate!
That’s highly debatable. Maybe not for the specific reason being discussed, but Valve, and by extension Gabe, IS complicit in stuff like CS:GO gambling which preys on the underaged and and vulnerable.
Just want to let you know that you aren’t alone. I have talked to a number of women who advocate for things like DEI and acceptance (which is something I also believe quite strongly in) but often default to preferring more traditional gender norms in dating. When pressed on the issue (not like I’m interrogating them just through normal conversations and getting to know them) they will inevitably say that it is ultimately “just their preference”.
What I find so odd about that “preference” is if a man behaves in accordance with the traditional/societal gender norms in the beginning of the courting process, why is it surprising that they do the same thing later in the relationship when it comes to sharing emotional labor or various types of household chores?
I know the below is taking it to a bit of an extreme example but that behavior and “preference” often reminds me the sentiment “the only moral abortion is my abortion”. Like I get it, there are a lot of shitty people out there who have no interest in putting in the effort, and they absolutely are not worth the time and effort, but when you do meet someone who is willing to put in that effort, it isn’t really fair to treat them like all those other people.
… if we are lucky
