Mine is lilacs, because there was a lilac bush at the bus stop that I used to wait at with my mom when I was a kid, it was my school bus stop and the public bus stop so we spent a lot of time on that corner and now when I smell lilacs I just immediately feel like a kid again.
I’m Indigenous Canadian from northern Ontario so the strongest memories for me have to do with being out on the land with my family.
My favourite smell is a combination of a campfire inside my family’s teepee in the wilderness of northern Ontario in the early spring with snow still around and the mushkeg in the middle of melting and warming. The combination of fresh cut pine wood, pine boughs next to a new camp fire, fresh goose being roasted over the flames, the musky smell of the land, smoke from the fire and the cool damp scent of the snow and ice. It all brings me back to being a kid with my family. I wish I were there now.
Petrichor
I just Love it.
Orange blossoms. Everything “Orange blossom” scented just smells like perfumey oranges, nothing like actual orange blossoms. You can only smell them on the tree, this time of year.
To be in the middle of an orange orchard in full blossom is special.
go to spain, they have Fête du Citron - the fragrances overload the brain
New life goal!
Too many.
An Islay single malt whisky, fresh coffee, slow cooking onions and garlic, searing steak, grilled lamb, fish and chips with loads of salt and vinegar… hmm, lots of these are food related. Someone else said petrichor and I’m down with that too. Oh, and Twanquility’s wife, of course.
Barbecue (like sizzling steak) or campfire.
My dog’s feet. They smell like corn chips.
It’s a combination of Pseudomonas bacteria and yeasts. Obviously totally normal, but I agree. It’s a great smell.
also the warm pupper aroma. the opposite of wet dawg smell, it’s lovely.
My wife’s soap.
Every time she comes out of the shower I want to pounce on her. I often grab her while sitting for a hug and plant my face in her tummy. Getting a good whiff.
Oddly enough she uses fragrance free soap so maybe it’s just her natural scent. Haha.
That means you liiiike her
coffee because it is the best thing in the world
My stuffed animals after I’ve been snuggling with them for a while. They smell like love to me. Probably smell like weird BO to others, but they don’t to me.
Sunscreen and fresh cut grass. Reminds me of carefree days as a kid where everything was possible
Wood fires, as in campfires and fireplaces. Reminds me of warmth and comfort.
A core memory unlock scent for me is any time I smell honeysuckle. We had some where I grew up, and it just instantly takes me back.
Others are a spray from Lush called sleepy time. It’s Lavender and Tonka, and it is the most calming scent I’ve ever been around.
Dark chocolate. Good roasted coffee. Wife’s body spray Tea and Bergamont from bath and bodyworks. My weird ones are lumber and gasoline
That rain smell, I remember being happy when my mom allowed me to play in the rain.
True story: Last night I stood out in the rain in my backyard and I laughed as hard as I could. I really don’t know what came over me, I have always loved to stand out in the rain, but I never just let loose that kind of joy before. I mean I just stood with my head to the sky and laughed with my whole body and every fiber of my being. Then I came in, changed, and slept like a baby.
Exclamation perfume. Drove me nuts in high school. Not sure if it’s around still.
Almond scented pink public bathroom soap
