The Fifth Element
wow the 5th element for me too. Always thought I was weird but his movie is great
also tropic thunder lol
The Big Lebowski. Simultaneously ridiculous and incredibly sophisticated. People who think its “just” a stoner comedy may have some more viewings to go 🙂
Yeah, well, you know, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.
I never realized it was considered a stoner comedy! It’s quite a bit better than one I’ve seen in that category!
Don’t be fatuous.
Office Space
It’s wild how relatable it still is nearly 30 years later.
I could set the building on fire…
PC load letter? What the fuck does that mean?
Idiocracy
There’s something about that close-to-home dystopian outlook that calms me. Now go away, I’m batin’!
I like money.
I liked it a long time ago, but last time I watched it I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much. The eugenics annoys me far more than it used to, and most of the humor is just crass and doesn’t have a meaning. They aren’t using it to say anything larger.
Meanwhile the themes of the movie are anti-capitalist (sort of, without the philosophy of considering why it causes issues) and anti-populist. It has something to say, but I feel like they’re far too careful to say it. Its got a veil of critique, but without wanting to make too many waves, because it’s still a big budget capitalist movie at the end of the day.
I feel like it makes a lot of people feel smug and turns them into reactionary anti-establishment conspiracy theorists, because it only says “this is bad and stupid” but doesn’t give you anywhere to go with that.
Groundhog Day
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

The Princess Bride
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Hot Fuzz
The Big Lebowski
Liar, liar.
Nearly every single line in that movie that Jim Carrey delivers is not only funny but his delivery and antics are a work of art. It’s like watching Messi dribble the soccer ball. Cary ewles gets an honorary mention for playing the straightman and absolutely killing it.
What’s wrong with me?!
I’m getting what I deserve I’m reaping what I sow—
I’m so glad my gift could bring them closer together. My plan to phase myself out is nearly complete.
Super troopers
Harold and Kumar go to white castle
Ghost busters
The Thing (1982)
It’s my favorite movie of all time and I watch it every October.
For me it’s The Matrix.
I never like to retread old ground, but this one’s an exception. It’s hard to overstate how much it blew our minds 26 years ago. I might have a soft spot for it too because I was raised sheltered and it was the first rated R movie I saw.
It’s a shame they didn’t make any sequels. The creators probably decided it was a complete story rather than milk it to death like Star wars. Guess that’s for the best!
Indeed. (Reloaded does have its moments, but yeah.)
I saw The Matrix a few times in theaters and watched it regularly when the dvd came out.
I know they say it has nothing to do with them and their transitioning… but nothing can change my mind on how the whole movie can be seen as a struggle to choose who you really are…
Kung Fury
Tank you.

Super cliche answer but:
The Shawshank Redemption
Evolution.
It knows what it is, and nobody in it is under some illusion that they’re making some masterpiece of cinema. That is not at all a criticism or even backhanded compliment. I like when the actors have fun with the things they’re working on. I mean, who doesn’t love seen behind the scenes of Ian Mckellen slapping a dummy of Sean Aston around.
It’s fun, it’s ridiculous, and it leans into it a bit.
Plus they came up with the Thanos Weakness a long time before the avengers fans.

(it’s the butthole, they attacked a giant alien anus with soap to save the day)
Oh shiiit, I used to love this movie as a kid/teen. Time for a re-watch I think.
